LIMITATIONS

I

In order to provide inquiry based teaching, teachers must deliver adequate pedagogical skills and strategies to their students. Reynolds (2010) states that the teachers ability to use a variety of teaching strategies to cater for a variety of different teaching situations is the single most effective indicator of student learning.

We must consider why we are teaching, now and in the future, we must understand the importance of education in nation- building, we must have opinions as to our role as teachers and how we make a difference in children’s lives, we must have a commitment to improving children’s lives and we must utilize specific teaching skills and strategies that cater to children's individual learning needs.

There may be limitations for inquiry learning to occur in the classroom if:
  • the teacher has a poor understanding of how her students learn
  • the teacher lacks inquiry learning knowledge
  • the teacher is lacking motivation and enthusiasm
  • students lack self- discipline, which inhibits effective learning

It is also important to be aware, that our individual values (intellectual, physical, social, moral, aesthetic) and attitudes influence what we teach and how we teach. Individual judgements and opinions should not intefere with the inquiry learning process or any other teaching.
